Rio Ferdinand tells Manchester United exactly what to do amid Harry Kane transfer talk

Rio Ferdinand has told Manchester United to prioritise signing a central defender before making a move for Tottenham star Harry Kane this summer.

The Spurs centre-forward has been heavily linked with United, as well as Manchester City and Chelsea recently, with Sky Sports claiming the Premier League trio have held talks with the England captain's representatives.

Kane is growing frustrated due to the lack of trophies he has won with the north London club during his career, but is yet to tell Daniel Levy of his desire to leave, football.london reported last month.

Man United are reportedly chasing a striker this summer, despite Edinson Cavani signing a one-year extension on his deal at Old Trafford recently.

As well as a centre-forward, United have been linked with a central defender and a right winger - with Pau Torres and Jadon Sancho being looked at, according to reports.

Ferdinand, formerly a centre-back at Old Trafford, has told manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to think about bolstering his defensive options before considering a move for Kane.

"They need to recruit well in this window in the right areas," Ferdinand told Goal. "I think they need a centre-back, a right winger and maybe even a centre-forward."

Ferdinand was then asked about a potential move for Kane, to which he replied: "It would be nice wouldn’t it.

"But my first position to buy would be centre-back."

Kane secured his third Golden Boot after finding the back of the net on the final day of the season against Leicester City to score his 23rd goal of the campaign and put him one ahead of Liverpool's Mo Salah.

The 27-year-old is currently with the England national team ahead of the Euros that start in 10 days.
