Rio Ferdinand slams Manchester United home form after draw with Everton

Rio Ferdinand has slammed Manchester United’s home form after they drew 1-1 against Everton in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.

United took the lead in the first half through Anthony Martial, but had to settle for a point after Andros Townsend's equaliser following a quick Everton break.

The draw with Rafa Benitez’s side was the second successive week the Reds have dropped points at home, after they lost to Aston Villa last Saturday.

Former United defender Ferdinand believes United’s home form has become a genuine concern, one which will need to be addressed if they’re to be successful this season.

“This is the reason they didn’t challenge last season, not winning enough games at home.” Ferdinand said on BT Sport

“Away from home their record is phenomenal but here at Old Trafford they continuously dropped points, today is another result that is very similar to last season.

“We need to see that shift from last season’s results and the mindset of last season of dropping points.

"This place should be a fortress where teams like Everton who are particularly under strength today should be put to the sword and they haven’t.”

Fellow pundit Jermaine Jenas believes United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should shoulder his share of the blame for the dropped points.

The former Newcastle and Tottenham midfielder was critical of Solsklajer’s team selection as he opted not to start Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba against the Toffees, instead choosing to rest them after their exertions during their midweek Champions League win over Villarreal.

“Today’s a bit of a blip in the road, Ole got it wrong, he tried to do something right but he seemed obsessed with the kick-off time," said Jenas.

“This week, there was a lot of talk ‘we should’ve played on Sunday and Liverpool should’ve played prior to that’ so that’s why he changed things around.

“He's worried about his players, he's trying to look after them physically, it hasn’t worked out.”
