Rio Ferdinand slams Liverpool's 'schoolboy errors' and Jurgen Klopp instructions against Bournemouth

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has highlighted the 'schoolboy errors' that Liverpool made defensively in their Premier League victory over Bournemouth.

The Reds fell behind early on to Callum Wilson's opener but fought back before the half-time whistle through goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

However, it wasn't a comfortable match for Liverpool, as the visitors had a number of opportunities, and Ferdinand believes there are simple mistakes to cut out.

"I think it's something he'll address, not today but maybe tomorrow, because this is like schoolboy stuff for me," he told BT Sport.

"The big threat in the last two or three games has been runs in behind to a target man. Virgil van Dijk has to cover his man, he's allowing people to run in behind.

"This was Bournemouth's out ball all game and this was the way that they set up. Once you see this a couple of times in a game as a defender, it should set you up to think that you need to drop off a bit.

"I think there is someone there in the management team, Klopp or one of his staff, who have said they have to play high, no dropping, because that's all I can see, it's schoolboy errors in that sense."
