Rio Ferdinand shoots down major concern over Jadon Sancho to Manchester United transfer

Rio Ferdinand has backed Manchester United to complete a deal for Jadon Sancho and shot down talk that they do not need him.

Monday marked the deadline Borussia Dortmund set for United to submit an acceptable bid for the England attacker, yet no agreement has yet been reached.

That has seen the Bundesliga club name Sancho in their squad for a pre-season training camp in Switzerland ahead of their league season starting next month.

Also included in the camp is former United target Jude Bellingham, who completed a move from Birmingham City to Dortmund this summer.

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand revealed that had not dissuaded him from saying that he wants United to sign Sancho.

"Same as everyone," he said when asked who he wanted to see United sign this summer.

"Jadon Sancho. A bit of flair."

With the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood all impressing for United this season, BT Sport host James Richardson pressed Ferdinand, arguing that the Reds do not need another player like Sancho.

Yet former United defender Ferdinand pointed to Reds teams of the past and argued that the sort of quality Sancho would provide in attack would be invaluable.

"I don't care," he said.

"You can never have enough of them, Man United, back in the day, always had four strikers.

"They were all battling it out to play and all played a role at any given part of the season.

"You need that."
