Rio Ferdinand sets Man City defender Kyle Walker Lyon challenge after shackling Eden Hazard

Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Kyle Walker for his performance against Real Madrid by shackling Eden Hazard and has challenged him to do the same against Lyon.

The Manchester City right-back kept Real Madrid's number seven very quiet during their 2-1 Champions League last-16 tie last week.

Hazard, who Walker faced many times during his spell with Chelsea, was in electric form, with his pace and aggression marking the Belgian star out of the match entirely.

Walker was lauded by City fans after the victory with his defensive application in particular being on point, an area of his game where he has been caught out in years gone by.

With Lyon up next for a place in the semi-final, Ferdinand has lauded Walker's showing and demanded he's equally as strong against the Ligue 1 club.

"Kyle Walker, who has been one of City's most consistent men over recent years in the way that he plays," Ferdinand told BT Sport.

"He's not only a fantastic defender but also going forward he can turn defence into attack which he did in this game (Real Madrid).

"He's somebody that gives them a bit of drive but also defensively, he needs to be disciplined, he was in this game.

"Eden Hazard, how many times have we seen him open up teams in the Premier League over the years but he was kept absolutely quiet.

"It comes down to discipline and concentration. On that side of the pitch, Cornet scored two goals over the two legs last season and he's playing there so he'll have to be ready and well aware."
