Trailing 3-0 on aggregate at half-time in the second-leg, the Lilywhites looked down and out but a valiant display in the final 45 minutes of the tie turned the game on its head.
Lucas Moura was the man of the moment by scoring a hat-trick to send Tottenham through on away goals, the latter of which came right at the death - providing more drama to a remarkable Champions League campaign.
Moura, incidentally, was the last player that Tottenham signed - and you have to go all the way back to January 2018 for when he arrived from Paris Saint-Germain.
Spurs became the first side in Premier League history not to sign a single player during a summer transfer window last year and repeated the trick a few months ago, with Pochettino remaining with the core squad he has assembled in the years prior.
Despite what many believed was a major disadvantage, Tottenham are set for another top-four finish in the Premier League and now have a Champions League final to look forward to.
As a result, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has said Pochettino needs to send a strong message to Daniel Levy ahead of the summer - as Moura’s performance shows the Argentine boss has a knack for finding gems in the transfer market.
“I’ll tell you what, if he goes to Daniel Levy and says: ‘Listen, the last player that I bought and you gave me money for 18 months ago was Lucas Moura. So I’m good at it. Give me some more.’,” he told BT Sport.
