Rio Ferdinand sends Raheem Sterling transfer instruction amid Arsenal rumours

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he would buy Raheem Sterling tomorrow after the winger’s previous links with Arsenal.

The England winger enjoyed an excellent Euro 2020 this summer, scoring three goals as the Three Lions reached the final against Italy.

That has however not translated into guaranteed game time with Manchester City, with Sterling having made just two starts in all competitions under Pep Guardiola this term.

It follows a summer where it was reported that the reigning Premier League champions might well have been willing to let him go, with Arsenal emerging as one of the likely candidates for his signature.

Ferdinand has admitted that he is somewhat perplexed over Sterling’s current situation at the Etihad Stadium and has instructed any interested parties to keep a close eye on developments in the near future.

Talking on his FIVE podcast, he said: "It's only because he [Sterling] has been taken out of the team that he’s lost confidence. He was on fire.

"This guy was the go-to guy when they needed a goal for the last few years and all of a sudden he is in the wilderness. I’m baffled by it, I don’t understand it, but this is the thing with Pep, he gets it right more often than not.

"This one, though, with Sterling, there must be clubs sitting there and going: 'Boy, let me see how this one pans out because I will take Sterling all day'. If I’m Liverpool, I will buy Sterling tomorrow."

Questions over Sterling’s future emerged earlier this summer due to doubts over his contract.

The three-time Premier League winner now has just under two years remaining on his current Manchester City deal, with reports remaining somewhat silent over the prospect of an extended stay at the current time.
