Rio Ferdinand sends Manchester United fans wild with cryptic Saul Niguez tweet

Rio Ferdinand sent Manchester United fans into overdrive after replying with a cryptic message to Saul Niguez's latest tweet.

The Atletico Madrid star has established himself as one of La Liga's top central midfielders under Diego Simeone, making over 285 appearances for the club and winning one Spanish league title.

United scouted Saul in 2014 with David Moyes sending then first-team coach Phil Neville to watch his performances during a loan spell at Rayo Vallecano. Due to the uncertainty over Paul Pogba's long-term future, Saul has again been linked with United.

Ferdinand backed the midfielder for a move to United in April after admitting he was a huge fan of the Spain international."I like Saul Niguez, he's a very, very good player in midfield," he said.

On Sunday, Saul revealed that he would be announcing a 'new club' on Wednesday, leading to fans dreaming that he could be on his way to Manchester.

The midfielder has been counting down the days on his official Twitter account and Ferdinand replied to his latest update with the shifty eyes emoji.

It wouldn't be the first time Ferdinand has commented on transfer reports, after he used the exact same emoji when United were pursuing Bruno Fernandes, who ultimately joined the club in January.

United fans, rather optimistically, believe the former defender has the inside scoop on Saul's next club and reckon Ferdinand's transfer wish could be coming true.

Unfortunately for fans hoping to see Saul at Old Trafford, the midfielder will not be announcing he is joining United.

Saul signed a nine-year contract at Atletico in 2017 and his announcement on Wednesday is almost certain to be related to his business affairs.
