Rio Ferdinand says Donny van de Beek 'won't get a chance' at Manchester United

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand fears Donny van de Beek might not get the chance to show his qualities at the club under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 24-year-old made just four Premier League starts last season following his £35million move from Dutch side Ajax last summer.

This season has started no better as he has been an unused substitute in United's opening two games.

With the other talent in midfield, it looks like it will be tough for the midfielder to break into the squad and he has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Ferdinand has already resigned himself to the signing proving to be a 'failure' but feels that the Dutchman should have received more chances to prove himself.

" Donny van de Beek, he’s not going to get a chance in this team is he? £40million and he ain’t going to play," Ferdinand told FIVE.

"Anyone coming in under Ole is an Ole signing. You give him the credit for the players who come in an do well, and you’ve got to take [criticism].

"I’m not one of those people who think every signing is going to be great. You are going to get them wrong, Fergie got them wrong.

"It’s inevitable when you sign so many players that you get one or two wrong.

"Van De Beek, you don’t know if he’s wrong or right because he doesn’t get the opportunity. That’s the problem."

Van de Beek, 24, built a reputation as one of Europe's most promising midfield prospects thanks to his excellent performances in Holland and the excitement was warranted - he was the latest exceptional talent to emerge from Ajax's prestigious academy ranks.

However, it is uncertain how much longer his future at Old Trafford can survive if he is not getting the chance to play on a regular basis.
