Rio Ferdinand has urged Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to take a hard look at himself after his side suffered a humiliating 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Last year's finalists played host to the Bundesliga champions at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and took the lead in the first half through Son Heung-Min, although they quickly fell apart.
Led by a four-goal haul from former Arsenal starlet Serge Gnabry, the Bundesliga side put the hosts to the sword - with Spurs conceding seven goals in a home match for the first time in their history.
That result has increased the pressure upon Pochettino after an indifferent start to the campaign, with the Argentine now the favourite among some bookmakers to be the next Premier League boss to leave their post.
After the match, Ferdinand was asked whether this was a job-threatening result for Pochettino and, while the former Manchester United man didn't go that far, he did issue a warning to the team.
“I don’t know if it’s that but it’s down to him, how he reacts to this, how he gets his changing room to react to this,” he told BT Sport.
“This is a huge result. To be beaten at home in a Champions League game of this magnitude against a Bayern Munich side who are in transition, losing huge players of experience over the summer.
“To be destroyed like this, they have to look in the mirror and do something.”
Tottenham have now failed to win either of their opening two group-stage matches in the Champions League this season, raising the importance of their two upcoming clashes with Serbian outfit Red Star Belgrade.
