Rio Ferdinand's reaction to his 20-year Leeds United transfer record being broken

Leeds United have completed the signing of Valencia and Spain star Rodrigo Moreno.

The Whites announced the £27m deal this morning after more than a week of negotiations.

The fee is a club-record for the Whites after 20 years, and that has caught the attention of former defender Rio Ferdinand.

Ferdinand previously held that record with Leeds paying £18million to sign him from West Ham in November 2000.

The former Leeds and Manchester United centre-back took to Twitter to say: "Just seen after 2 decades @LUFC have broken their club record transfer fee since...." along with an eyes emoji.

Ferdinand went on to spend two years at Elland Road, departing in 2002 for Manchester United in the Leeds' record sale.

The Whites have tied Rodrigo down until 2024 but first and foremost, they will be hoping the Brazil-born Spanish international can help them stay up and achieve a season remember in their first campaign back in the top flight.

Rodrigo joins after six years at Valencia in all, the 29-year-old initially joining the La Liga club on loan before making his move from Benfica permanent a year later.
