Rio Ferdinand rules out I'm A Celebrity stint as he gets too hangry

If you were hoping to see Rio Ferdinand in the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle soon, you might be waiting a while.

The former footballer says there's no hope of him joining the cast of the ITV show - which is expected to return to Australia later this year, after the coronavirus pandemic moved production to Wales in 2020 - as he gets too hangry.

He admitted he wouldn't come off well in the jungle because he gets "miserable, angry and aggressive" when he hasn't had anything to eat, something which the show's celebrities know too well on their diet of rice and beans.

"I’ve got to be honest, I would come across so bad in the jungle because without food, I am the most miserable man. I get really, really angry and aggressive!" he said, chatting to former campmate Roman Kemp on the Capital Breakfast show.

However, Roman had a solution that would see Rio join the jungle show.

"I’ll have to go back in there for you, to just do the impression - 'Nahh, listen Ant, Dec, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!'" he joked with the footballer as they both laughed at his impression.

Rio is married to former TOWIE star Kate Ferdinand, and they share Cree, five months, together, and he believes Kate has made him a better person and has taught him a lot about himself.

But Roman Kemp had a great way of giving fans a chance to see Rio in the jungle (Capital Radio)

"You really do learn about yourself. I was so low that you don't see a way out. But if you have good people then you can claw your way out to the point where you are as happy as you have ever been," he said.

"Kate has helped to make me a better man. There is no doubt about that. And you have your own moments. You have a drink on your own and look back and realise you have come a f**king long way in the last few years."

Rio also has Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and Tia, 10, with his late wife Rebecca Ellison and he thought he would never be happy again following her tragic death from cancer in 2015.

"I thought I'm never going to be happy again. I'll never meet anyone, I was just really content with just being me and the kids and that's all I thought it was going to be," he confessed.
