Rio Ferdinand reveals what has surprised him about Frank Lampard as Chelsea manager

Rio Ferdinand has revealed what has surprised him about Frank Lampard as a manager.

Lampard succeeded Maurizio Sarri as Chelsea boss in the summer, despite only having one-year of managerial experience under his belt.

Prior to his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Lampard guided Derby County into the Championship play-offs, but the Rams were beaten by Aston Villa in the final at Wembley.

Lampard was known for being a shy and reserved character during his playing days, but Ferdinand has opened up on how the Blues icon has adapted in his role as a manager.

"When I played, I asked the lads before, have you ever heard Frank speak on the training field or in a game? Never," the former Manchester United told BT Sport.

"But I went to the training ground and saw Frank Lampard the manager. The most prominent, loudest voice on the training ground.

"Barking orders and the authority was there in his voice from the word go.

"I was impressed with the way he coached the team during the session.

"It surprised me, yeah. I was really looking forward to seeing what he was like as a manager and as a coach on the training field.

"I have got nothing but positives to say about that experience."
