Rio Ferdinand reveals Man City theory behind first goal against PSG

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester City had "planned" the move that gave them their first goal against Paris Saint-Germain.

Leading 2-1 from the first leg in Paris, City extending their advantage after 11 minutes at the Etihad Stadium through Riyad Mahrez.

The goal was all down to a long kick from Ederson, which perfectly picked out Oleksandr Zinchenko 's run from his own half in behind the PSG defence.

Ederson 's pass was timed to perfection with Zinchenko's deep run and Mahrez turned the ball home after Kevin de Bruyne's shot was blocked.

“I think that’s planned, I think that’s something they’ve worked on," Ferdinand told BT Sport at half-time.

"Before this goal was scored, there’s a clip we’ll show at the end of the game which was almost identical to that.

"Zinchenko really high, Walker slightly deeper and it was on. It was definitely planned before the game.”

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart added: “That’s not normal what he’s (Ederson) done there, let me tell you that.

"That’s off one step, he’s capable of it. He’s put it on a sixpence for Zinchenko.

"What a moment - yes it’s on, we all see that now, but to execute that at the highest level is brilliant.”
