Rio Ferdinand praises Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea after West Brom draw

Rio Ferdinand praised Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea for his contribution during the 1-1 draw with West Brom on Sunday.

Having racked up 335 appearances in the Premier League since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2011, De Gea has been regarded as the world's best goalkeeper at times during his time at the club but his stock has fallen over the last couple of years due to some patchy form.

De Gea was one of United's best performers against West Brom on Sunday though, though, producing a quickfire double save to deny goalscorer Mbaye Diagne a potential winning goal at The Hawthorns.

It wasn't quite the catalyst to inspire United to victory, but it was enough for Ferdinand to post a simple message of support for his former teammate on social media.

"This guy kept us in the game today! @D_DeGea," Ferdinand wrote on Twitter.

Prior to the match, Ferdinand's former United teammate Gary Neville questioned whether United could win the title again with De Gea in goal. He told the Webby and O'Neill YouTube channel: "You have to start asking questions about him because the mistakes are coming now, I wouldn't say thick and fast, but they're coming more regularly and they cost points and the game-winning saves are coming less, in my opinion, the one-on-one saves are coming less. I think that has to be a question that Ole has to answer.

"And then there's the question of Henderson. Are we saying Henderson is going to be the number one for Manchester United?

"What I would say now is, if Pep Guardiola or [Jurgen] Klopp came into Manchester United in six months' time, they would bring a new goalkeeper in that would remove all doubt as to whether he was great or not."
