Rio Ferdinand pinpoints trait that proves what Mason Greenwood's best position is for Manchester United

Rio Ferdinand believes Mason Greenwood's movement is that of a striker after the Manchester United teenager scored the late winning goal against Brighton on Sunday.

Greenwood nodded home from close range to secure a win that gives United an 11-point cushion in the top four with just eight league games left to play.

It was Greenwood's sixth goal of the campaign, with the youngster having struggled to find the net as regularly as he did last season. Ferdinand believes Greenwood has not had the scoring luck but has every confidence the goals will begin to flow again after two in his last two games - as long as his teammates start to pick him out more.

He said: "That’s a striker’s instinct there. If you question him, 'is he a striker or not?' This kid’s a striker, that movement alone tells you. A lot of players would have just waited for the ball and not got on the end of it, you move first and get on the end of the ball.

"I was pleased with Greenwood about his all-round game, he hasn’t got the luck this season in front of goal - two league goals, six in all competitions, but his actual movement today, the way he retained possession of the ball.

"He didn’t get the ball a lot of the times when he could have and that’s something Ole might need to have a look at. He’s making unbelievable runs and people aren’t picking him out at the moment and that will come from the confidence of the others.

"Don’t be fazed by not getting the ball, keep doing it and they’ll see you at some point."
