Rio Ferdinand pinpoints how Chelsea are trying to follow Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool blueprint

Rio Ferdinand believes Frank Lampard is changing the culture at Chelsea.

Lampard has enjoyed a successful first season in charge of the Blues, having replaced Maurizio Sarri last summer.

A fourth-place finish was secured in the Premier League, while the Blues also made it to the FA Cup final.

Lampard also gave plenty of game time to young talents such as Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham, who rewarded their coach’s faith in them with top performances.

Frank Lampard on impact of Champions League on transfers

“I think as important as what Joe has just said, he is in the process of creating a culture at the football club,” the former Manchester United star told BT Sport when asked about Lampard’s first game in charge.

“You look at the great side today, like Klopp and his side, there is a culture there. There is a work ethic that runs through the veins of every player at that football club.

“And that is what Frank is trying to put in here. You can see here that there aren’t many players that can’t afford to rest on their laurels.

“There is a World Cup winners on the bench. There is a £70million goalkeeper benched. If you aren’t doing what he wants and fitting the role he is setting out then you don’t play. You need a strong personality and a character to do that.”
