Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has labelled Callum Hudson-Odoi as a "potential superstar" and believes he is the best of Chelsea's exciting crop of young players.
Frank Lampard has put his faith in youth this season with Chelsea currently under a transfer embargo, which has seen the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori all-star for the first team.
All three have been a resounding success so far this term, with Abraham hitting seven Premier League goals in his first seven games, while he also scored the opener against Lille last night (Wednesday) in the Champions League.
Similarly, Mount has made an impression in midfield and established himself as Lampard's first-choice creative midfielder, form that has also seen him make his England debut.
However, one man who is yet to take advantage of Chelsea's new youth policy is Hudson-Odoi, who has just returned from injury.
The Englishman ruptured his Achilles in April against Burnley, which has seen him miss the last six months of action.
The 18-year-old signed a new five-year deal last month to fend off interest from Bayern Munich, who were keen to sign Hudson-Odoi last season, underlining his reputation within the European game, despite his lack of experience in first-team football.
With that in mind, Ferdinand has labelled the tricky winger as a "potential superstar" and believes he is the most talented and exciting prospect of all Chelsea's young stars.
“I think [Callum] Hudson-Odoi has been robbed of this spotlight because he got injured with a bad injury," he told BT Sport as part of their punditry team for the Blues' Champions League clash against Lille, which Chelsea won 2-1.
“He is the guy. He is the potential superstar out of these boys. They have all got talent in other areas, but Hudson-Odoi is the one you would say is a shoo-in to play for England once he is fit."
But he made an impact from the bench against Lille, producing the assist for Willian's winning goal after swinging in a cross from the left for the Brazilian.
Hudson-Odoi made his first start of the season against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup last week, helping himself to a goal in the process.
The teenager made his Premier League return from the bench against Brighton at the weekend but is still awaiting a first league start of the season.
