Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has named Fabian Ruiz and Kalidou Koulibaly as the players he would bring to the club in the January transfer window.
Ferdinand was asked by a fan on Twitter: "United can sign two players in this January window. Who would you like to see recruited into Old Trafford?"
The former defender names the Napoli duo as well as a wild card in the shape of Boca Juniors teenager Augustin Almenra.
With clubs now free to make transfers for the next month United are expected to strengthen following an underwhelming first-half of the season.
While United sit in a promising fifth place in the Premier League, just four points off the top four, they have continued to be inconsistent with impressive victories being followed up with disappointing results.
One of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's biggest problems has been in midfield, with a lack of creativity from the middle of the park often leaving United with out ideas against deep defences.
Injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay have now left Solskjaer short on options, too, so he is expected to add reinforcement to the position in January.
Rhe likes of Jack Grealish and James Maddison have been heavily linked, but Ferdinand believes Ruiz could be the solution.
The 23-year-old Spaniard is renowned for his slick passing and versatility across the midfield.
Despite spending big money on Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer, United's defence has continued to leak preventable goals throughout the campaign, which has prompted Ferdinand to call for Koulibaly to be signed as well.
The imposing centre-back is regarded as one of the finest defenders in the world has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for years, but one is yet to have materialised.
Ferdinand's wild card, Almendra, is highly regarded in his home country and is already a first teamer for Boca at the age of 19.
