Rio Ferdinand names Manchester United star who would've felt embarrassed after West Brom draw

Rio Ferdinand says Harry Maguire will have woken up embarrassed over the incident that almost saw Manchester United given a penalty against West Brom.

United captain Maguire was upset with referee Craig Pawson, who pointed to the spot after Maguire went down in the box before overturning the decision after watching a replay on the pitchside monitor.

It left Maguire frustrated, arguing he was denied a definite spot-kick.

"I was so certain it was a penalty," Maguire said. "I don’t understand why he’s been sent to the monitor to even check it. I’m goal side of the defender, I feel a touch on my shoulder, he’s pulling me back and then I feel actually a little clip on my heels as well.

"It was minimal but it’s a penalty, especially after the referee points to the penalty spot you think there’s no chance it’s getting overturned. I was so confident that it was going to be given as a penalty but it seems like the decisions at the moment are going against us."

Yet Ferdinand was unimpressed at how easily Maguire went down under the challenge from Semi Ajayi.

Speaking on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube show, Ferdinand said the centre-back will not look back fondly on his behaviour.

"That’s not something that you associate with our defenders," he said. "I think, if Harry is being honest, he will have waken up in the morning and be embarrassed with what he has done.

"It’s not what you want to see from a defender. I don’t think that’s what he’s prided himself on throughout his career. You try and be cute, I understand that, but you would be embarrassed really. He will watch it back and go, ‘bloody hell, what was I thinking?’"
