Rio Ferdinand names his Manchester United teammate second only to Cristiano Ronaldo

Rio Ferdinand has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo was his only Manchester United teammate better than Paul Scholes.

The English midfielder won 11 Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford and is the club's third-highest appearance maker.

As a result, Ferdinand revealed that, except Ronaldo, Scholes was the best teammate he ever played with.

Asked to name the best player he lined up with during an Instagram Live with Arco Academy, Ferdinand responded: "Cristiano Ronaldo, obvious for everyone to see why.

"But also another one would be Paul Scholes. Crazy player.

"If I had my last bit of money and I had to bet it on a player hitting a target from anywhere on the pitch, he would be the man that I back.

"Like a radar, his foot was crazy, mad passer."

Scholes won 19 major honours in total during his 20 years at Old Trafford and made 66 appearances for England before retiring from international duty in 2004.

Scholes often cut a frustrated figure playing for his country due to being asked to play a wider role to accommodate other midfielders such as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

When asked if he thought Scholes retired from international duty too early, Ferdinand replied: "Yeah definitely, but then that was because he wasn’t being played in the right position."
