Rio Ferdinand makes U-turn over Liverpool prediction after Leicester defeat

Rio Ferdinand believes it will be very tough for Liverpool to finish in the top four this season following their defeat to Leicester City.

The Reds were beaten 3-1 by the Foxes despite taking the lead on 67 minutes through Mohamed Salah 's 17th Premier League goal of the season.

It's Liverpool's third consecutive league defeat after back-to-back home losses against Brighton and Manchester City coming into the match at the King Power Stadium.

Jurgen Klopp 's side are now six points off Leicester, who have climbed above Manchester United into second-place after their comeback against the Merseyside club.

Speaking before the match, ex-Manchester United defender Ferdinand predicted the Reds to finish in third-place.

However, when the pundit was asked on BT Sport following their late collapse, he had a very different prediction.

Ferdinand said: “I think they’ve got work to do to finish in the top four. We said before the game that this game would be pivotal in where these two teams end up.

"Liverpool are going to struggle to finish in the top four in this current form.”

Next up for last season's champions is a trip to Budapest on Tuesday night to face RB Leipzig in the first-leg of the Round of 16 in the Champions League.

It's then back to the Premier League for Liverpool, as they welcome city rivals Everton to Anfield for the second Merseyside derby of the season.
