Rio Ferdinand makes Rafael Da Silva claim after Manchester United defeat

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has stated that the club should never have sold Rafael Da Silva after the defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir.

The Turkish side came into the clash against United without even scoring a goal before in the Champions League but stunned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Goals from Demba Ba and Edin Visca were enough to condemn United to a second defeat in the space of a week, with Anthony Martial's effort being mere consolation.

The result has increased the pressure upon Solskjaer and his squad, who are yet to win at home in the Premier League, and there has been plenty to digest in the aftermath.

Against the Turkish outfit, United came up against a familiar face in the form of full-back Rafael - and Ferdinand stated that he shouldn't have been sold by the club.

Posting on Twitter, he said: "We should never have sold @orafa2 #facts" and accompanied his tweet with an emoji to show his emotions on the matter.

The Brazil international joined United in 2008 alongside twin brother Fabio and went on to make over 100 league appearances for the club.

He lifted the Premier League title on three occasions and was also runner-up in the Champions League twice, before joining Ligue 1 side Lyon in 2016.

Rafael left the French side in the summer transfer window to move to the Turkish capital, where he has made an immediate impression.
