Rio Ferdinand makes Jadon Sancho prediction for debut Manchester United season

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has backed Jadon Sancho to catch the eye in his debut season at the club next term, with a transfer from Borussia Dortmund now agreed.

United have agreed a deal with the Bundesliga side and are now just waiting to officially unveil the player following the conclusion of the European Championships.

Sancho made his first start for England at the tournament in Saturday's quarter-final victory over Ukraine in Rome, where a 4-0 triumph has set-up a semi-final showdown with Denmark at Wembley.

The 21-year-old has certainly laid down a marker ahead of that game to retain his starting berth, amid fierce competition from the likes of Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka.

How many goals and assists will Sancho get with United next season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

He stretched the Ukraine defence with his movement, allowing space down the right for Kyle Walker to push forward, and received plenty of praise for his display.

United fans will be hopeful that he can similarly shine at Old Trafford next season and Ferdinand is convinced he will do exactly that.

“I’ll tell you one thing, next season at Man United, he’ll have people off their seats," he told the BBC after the game.

"There’s moments in this game where he draws your breath and you think, ‘Oh, wow, that’s different’ — and he’s a fabulous talent, we know that, but mentally he’s very strong and he’s got a desire to be as good as he can be.

"Players that can up the potential of the game are different and they bring something different to your team in the way that he does.

"This is his first game, by the way, in the tournament, and he comes in and plays the way he did and creates moments, it shows you the talent that is there.”
