Rio Ferdinand makes 'confident' Manchester United claim during Derby County FA Cup tie

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United’s first half performance against Derby County was the most 'confident' he has seen them for months.

United travelled to Pride Park looking to continue their fine run of form and book their place in the last eight of the competition.

And although the opening 10 minutes was a cagey affair, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side soon found their rhythm and raced into a 2-0 lead.

First Luke Shaw found the top corner of the net with a looping effort from the edge of the box before Odion Ighalo added a second four minutes before the interval.

“I think the first ten minutes was just a bit of a finding each other out period,” Ferdinand told BT Sport at half-time.

“This is a potential banana skin. FA Cup football coming here, under the lights and the atmosphere was very good before the game started.

“But Manchester United have managed this game perfectly well. This is the most confident I have seen Man United for many months.

“They come here and look very, very assured of themselves. Yeah they have tinkered with the team but it is business as usual.”
