Rio Ferdinand makes bold Man Utd prediction and reveals bet with Peter Crouch

Rio Ferdinand is still confident Manchester United will finish above both Liverpool and Tottenham this season despite their shock defeat to Sheffield United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side slumped to a 2-1 home loss to the Blades on Wednesday night and blew their chance to return to the top of the Premier League.

Manchester City are beginning to look favourites for first place following their superb run of form, but a number of teams are still in contention.

One of those is defending champions Liverpool, who, despite their poor recent displays, would move just three points behind United if they can defeat fellow challengers Tottenham on Thursday night.

But speaking on BT Sport Ferdinand said he still felt sure his ex-side would finish higher than both the aforementioned sides - and revealed he had placed a bet with Peter Crouch over it.

When asked about the situation, Ferdinand said: "We've already had a wager on this."

Crouch replied: "Yeah I said before the game I still think Liverpool will finish above United."

Ferdinand then added: "Nah, he's drunk too many red wines. I think Man Utd will finish above Spurs. We've had a little wager. What is it? A case of red wine?"

Crouch concluded: "A case of red wine, mate. A charity of your choice. Liverpool will finish above United."

United will be desperate to bounce back when they take on in-form Arsenal at the weekend.

But one man who may not be included in the starting line-up for the encounter is Anthony Martial, who was heavily criticised for his poor performance in Wednesday's game.

Ferdinand analysed an example of Martial's lack of tracking back, and said: "It's about the reaction, and I want you to see in a minute, Martial, where he ends up when the ball gets around the penalty box for Man United.

"He ambles back. I want to see a reaction of him sprinting back. Jogging. In yesteryear that doesn't happen. They get back here. Look, there's Martial, two or three passes have gone on he's still jogging back, ambling back. I want to see intensity."
