Rio Ferdinand makes bold Liverpool prediction following Man City's victory over Real Madrid

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is backing Liverpool to win the Champions League.

The BT Sport pundit has said the reigning champions are his favourites to reclaim the title despite Manchester City's impressive win over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Pep Guardiola's side came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 on Wednesday night with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne putting City in control of the last 16 tie.

Liverpool's trip to the Spanish capital ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid last week, but Ferdinand has backed Jurgen Klopp's side to prevail at Anfield.

The 41-year-old admitted: "I can’t look no further than Liverpool, if I’m honest.

"I think they’ll go through against Atletico Madrid. I think it’s a tough game but I think Anfield gives it a different dimension.

"Bayern Munich looked great yesterday against a team who are searching for form and their own identity at the moment in Chelsea.

"So they may have peaked a bit early, who knows - going forward they are great but defensively I would be concerned a little bit about Bayern.

"But Liverpool are my standout favourites."

The Reds will welcome Diego Simeone's outfit to Merseyside on March 11 to contest for a place in the quarter finals of the Champions League.
