Rio Ferdinand launches ten-word take down of Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris after Liverpool loss

They were only seven words, but they cut right to the point.

Tottenham were well beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night, with captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and his defenders culpable.

Lloris has had a good season for Spurs, but he was indecisive - as was Eric Dier - in letting Sadio Mane's low ball across the six-yard box fall easily for Roberto Firmino to tap home the opener.

Lloris then palmed a low Mane shot right into the path of Trent Alexander-Arnold for the second, when he could have either held onto it or pushed it round the post.

Those two mistakes came after what had been a good first half when he had made a couple of fine saves to deny Mane.

The France World Cup winner could do nothing about the third goal, which came from a Joe Rodon mistake, but the damage was already done.

After the game, Jermaine Jenas criticised Lloris for the goals saying: "It’s just indecisive play, defensively, people not taking responsibility. You’ve been playing against Liverpool for years now. Mane has been doing the same thing for years and Salah does the same thing on the other side, so you know he wants to get in behind and you still get suckered into that.

"This (Alexander-Arnold's goal) is the poorest goal of the lot, I’d say, but that from a world-class goalkeeper..."

And that is where Ferdinand cut in and delivered his seven-word take down of Lloris.

Ferdinand replied: "World-class? I think you’re doing him a favour."

Jenas then took to standing up for the Spurs skipper saying: "Well, he’s won the World Cup with the French national team. He’s the captain of France, he’s the captain of Spurs and I think when he was at his best, he was up there.

"He’s had a good season, Hugo, I’ve been one of his biggest critics when it comes to his performances over the last year, but he’s had a really bad night tonight and he’ll know that."
