Rio Ferdinand issues Paul Pogba challenge after exciting Manchester United cameo

Rio Ferdinand has challenged Paul Pogba to show consistency in Manchester United's final eight games of the season.

The French midfielder turned the game in United's 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, coming off the bench to bamboozle Spurs defender Eric Dier into giving away a penalty that Bruno Fernandes coolly dispatched.

It was an exciting cameo that suggested that a partnership of Pogba and Fernandes in midfield could well pay dividends for United in the long-run.

Ferdinand felt that United should be satisfied with the draw after falling behind in the first half and that Pogba's performance provided plenty of optimism.

Yet, speaking to BT Sport, the legendary former United defender said fans would now be expecting Pogba to showcase those sorts of displays on a regular basis.

"Before the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have intended to go and win the game," he said.

"But the way the game panned out, Spurs on the counter always looked quite dangerous.

"It was poor defending all-round from Manchester United for the goal.

"I think the cameo from Paul Pogba was something to delight all the fans, especially Manchester United fans.

"You got a really good glimpse of what this guy is about.

"Dier was mesmerised for the penalty, he was taken apart and fooled.

"Manchester United fans need to see that from Paul Pogba consistently - he played a pass in the game that was probably the best pass I've seen this season.

"That half-volley to Marcus Rashford on his toe was beautiful."
