Rio Ferdinand identifies Bernardo Silva trait that sets him apart at Man City

Rio Ferdinand has identified one key Bernardo Silva trait which has set him apart at Manchester City this season.

Having been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium during the summer transfer window, Bernardo has led the way for City - after staying put - with seven goals and two assists in 20 appearances.

Rested for the Champions League group stage finale, his absence was telling as Pep Guardiola and his rotated XI were beaten 2-1 by Bundesliga hosts RB Leipzig - as Kyle Walker was shown a red card - but their progression and top spot had already been sealed.

The decision to leave Bernardo at home was a significant sign of his importance to the City cause.

Bernardo is a contender for our Fans' Footballer of the Year vote in both the national and club sections.

Having coasted to a third Premier League title in four seasons, City splashed £100million on Jack Grealish but missed out on no1 target Harry Kane as Tottenham, ultimately, priced them out of a big-money swoop.

As a result, star-studded attacking names have been shuffled around this campaign - but without complaint from a certain in-form Portuguese sensation.

Speaking on punditry duties for BT Sport, ex-Manchester United defender Ferdinand said: " Bernardo has been one of the stand-out players of this season.

"What's impressive to me is his ability to slot in anywhere in the team.

"Every time he goes out there's no moaning. Wherever he goes out and plays he performs.

"There's no moaning about; 'I'm better here or there'. He goes and applies himself properly. He's a great example."
