Rio Ferdinand hammers David de Gea but praises Martial resurgence for Manchester United

Rio Ferdinand has criticised David de Gea following his error in Manchester United 's clash at home to Bournemouth.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Junior Stanislas beat De Gea at the near-post after nutmegging Harry Maguire on his way through the defence.

De Gea has struggled at times this season and come in for some criticism from certain quarters and Ferdinand provided more during commentary of the clash.

He told BT Sport: "They got off to a terrible start. There were mistakes all around. Harry (Maguire) got megged. De Gea has to do better on the near post.

"It was a cheeky nutmeg but De Gea has to cover that area at the near post.

"If the ball went past the near post when I was playing I would give the goalkeeper an earful."

United soon turned the game around when Mason Greenwood fired home before a penalty from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial' s curled finish from outside the box made it 3-1 at half-time.

On Martial's resurgence of late, Ferdinand added: "It was an unbelievable strike by Martial. He looks like a different human. He looks confident.

"He has always been known as a moody character but you can see him smiling away now. He is a different character under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer."

United conceded after the break as Eric Bailly was adjudged to have committed a handball offence and Joshua King netted, but Greenwood made it 4-2 with another wonderful finish before Bruno Fernandes also found the back of the net.
