Rio Ferdinand has declared his love for Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, putting aside his Manchester United loyalties.
The Dutch midfielder came up as a topic of discussion ahead of Liverpool's Champions League fixture against Ajax.
The 30-year-old joined the Reds in 2016 and has been central to the club's recent success.
With Premier League and Champions League winning medals to his name, Ferdinand believes that Wijnaldum is often looked past when Liverpool praise is dished out.
"I got to be honest: I love this player," said Ferdinand on BT Sport.
"He's very selfless, his intelligence, he's underrated completely because he can play every single midfield position in that central area.
"He's plays a No.10 role for Holland, the way he defends here [for Liverpool]."
Ferdinand went on to explain that players like Wijnaldum are often more appreciated by their team-mates than fans because they see first hand the effort they put in.
"We do get players who you play with in your career," Ferdinand added.
"Who fans probably don't appreciate as much, because on the pitch you know how much work they're getting through, how valuable they are."
Wijnaldum is out of contract in the summer and he was heavily linked with Barcelona in the most recent window.
Based on Ferdinand's assessment, Liverpool would be foolish to let him go...especially on a free.
