Rio Ferdinand has stated that Jesse Lingard has every right to be disappointed with his lack of game time at Manchester United so far this season.
Lingard has made a number of impressive cameo appearances this season, as Ferdinand believes he has earned the right to be in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans.
Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand was asked about Ronaldo being benched in United's disappointing home draw to Everton this past weekend.
And after stating that he did not understand the decision, the former United defender went on to say that he believes Lingard is in line for more minutes.
Ferdinand said: "I think another player who can be valid in having disappointment is Jesse Lingard.
"He's getting goals, he's getting assists - he's played well at important times since he's come back from West Ham.
"He performed so well for West Ham off the left-wing, he can do some serious damage there.
"He's probably thinking - what do I have to do to start?"
With Marcus Rashford out - who will likely slot back in at left-wing once he returns after international duty - Solskjaer opted to use Paul Pogba from the position.
With Rashford back in contention, it'll be interesting to see if Ole considers moving Pogba back into midfield - allowing him to get the French talisman on the field with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo.
For Lingard, though, it's difficult to see where he fits in once all of United's attackers are back fit.
He'll look to continue in his cameo appearances off the bench and force Solskjaer's hand to eventually consider him for a starting spot later in the season.
