Rio Ferdinand explains why Sadio Mane edges Mohamed Salah for quality

Rio Ferdinand says Sadio Mane is his favourite of Liverpool's front three because he believes he'd be the hardest to play against.

Liverpool are blessed with three of the best strikers in world football, and Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino have been instrumental in the Reds success both domestically and in Europe in recent years.

Firmino plays in the centre of the trio and is largely used as a defensive forward: the man who kick-starts Liverpool's gegenpress and who looks to feed Salah and Mane.

The other two are Liverpool's goalscorers, who are pretty well matched.

But Ferdinand reckons Mane is the slightly better forward because he provides so much.

"Mane's my favourite in the attacking sense, I love him," Ferdinand said on BT Sport, ahead of Liverpool's Champions League clash with Ajax.

"I think I would find him the hardest to play against in terms of style and he brings so much to the party. His movement, his speed, his final pass as well he can finish."

Firmino was also praised in the BT Sport studio on Wednesday night, with Peter Crouch saying: "I love him as a player and I do think he's perfect for the other two but let's be honest he's got to be scoring more goals.

"If he's not scoring the goals then I think he's got to be creating more than he does. I love him as a player. I don't want to slag him off but I think he could be doing more."
