Rio Ferdinand explains why Manchester United will be devastated by Europa League draw

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be 'devastated' by Friday's Europa League draw, which hands the Red Devils a lot of travel.

Solskjaer 's side face Astana, AZ Alkmaar and Partizan Belgrade in the competition, with lengthy trips to Kazakhstan and Serbia now pencilled into the character.

As a result, United legend Ferdinand believes that it could cause problems for Solskjaer's side in the Premier League campaign - although he adds that it is the perfect opportunity for the young players in the squad.

“They’ll get their air miles up, that’s what they will be doing. It’s unbelievable!” he told BT Sport.

“They’ll be devastated. I’m sure him and his staff will be telling the young players in the squad ‘be ready’ because they’ll have to utilise the squad. With travel like that, it takes its toll on the body mentally and physically.

“You go on a Thursday to Kazakhstan, 6,000 miles and then you come back to a game maybe away in the Premier League. It’s difficult and he’s going to need his squad to be ready to come in and fill gaps.”
