Rio Ferdinand explains why Manchester United need Paul Pogba

Rio Ferdinand has explained why Manchester United need Paul Pogba, following the goalless draw in the third round of the FA Cup against Wolves.

With nothing to separate the two sides, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees another fixture at Old Trafford added to a packed fixture schedule.

United finished the game without a single shot on target and that was a concern that Ferdinand highlighted after the match, with Solskjaer's side suffering similar creative issues in their recent defeat to Arsenal.

“They need a player who is going to come in and unlock things when it’s tight like this, when teams are putting in a good system in front of them with two blocks there to be broken down,” he told BT Sport.

“That’s when you need the quality, that’s when you need someone in the middle of the park who can put a ball over a full-back’s head from 40 yards and get a winger in one vs one, or get them in on goal from that area.

“At the moment in that team, I don’t see someone who is capable or willing to do that and that’s why the Paul Pogba situation is so frustrating for me as a Manchester United fan.

“You want your best players out there. Paul Pogba, on form and on song, is that type of player to make the difference.”
