Rio Ferdinand explains why Chelsea could be ahead of Manchester United in Jack Grealish race

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has explained why Chelsea might just be ahead of the Reds in the race to sign Jack Grealish.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Aston Villa star with Hakim Ziyech's future appearing to be uncertain despite only arriving at the club from Ajax last summer.

It's reported Grealish could be the man they turn to add even more creativity to their already ultra-strong squad, but they are likely to face competition.

Though, as far as Manchester United are concerned, Grealish may not be compatible at this moment in time, according to Ferdinand, and the former defender does not think it is Bruno Fernandes that is the problem.

"All day long man," he responded when asked if he would like Grealish. "But I don't even think (Bruno) Fernandes that's the problem (for the move to happen). You've got Rashford and Pogba that are both playing on the left, which is where Jack plays.

"Jack's best position is on the left, and the next best position you'd imagine would be number 10. They're the positions where our most influential players in terms of attacking positions are, so I think it's difficult to see him at Manchester United right now.

"Unless they ship one or two of the boys away, I see it as a difficult deal to be done."

Grealish is currently away with England at Euro 2020, so any potential deal would have to wait, though it's unclear whether Chelsea could even pull off a deal.

The Aston Villa star is being priced at more than £100million, and given a top striker is at the top of the Blues' shortlist, it seems unlikely they will sign two players for more than £100million apiece.
