Rio Ferdinand explains what Mikel Arteta did to unleash Arsenal's youngsters against Bournemouth

Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has provided a glowing verdict on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta after the display from the club's young guns at Bournemouth.

Arsenal led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah as Arteta trusted his youth.

It was a great decision from the Spaniard, who saw his youngsters thrive in the first half even if it was a nervy finish as the Gunners prevailed 2-1.

Gabriel Martinelli dominated initially up top once again but Saka and Nketiah also made their mark.

It left former United defender Ferdinand hailing the trio of young guns at half-time and explaining why Arteta should take a huge credit for their performances.

"There is no better feeling for a manager to see that," Ferdinand told BT Sport.

"That is training ground work. It's purely what you see there. You can see the players get it when they put it out on display.

"It's almost like a training game. Martinelli and Saka have been phenomenal and they are toying with them.

"It's fantastic seeing young players confident. It's like they are playing with mannequins in training."

On what the impact of the Arsenal youngsters taking a lead means for the rest of the players coming through, Ferdinand added: "What's great is that the young players underneath this will be looking to get into the team. Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock are great players too.

"Arsenal have always produced good young players but not many of them have stayed in the team. This is an opportunity for them now."
