Rio Ferdinand reckons the conspiracy theories will begin appearing after Manchester City suffered another Champions League exit.
The Premier League outfit were sent packing by Lyon in the last eight despite being heavy favourites.
But the turning point in their 3-1 defeat was a crucial refereeing decision that saw them go 2-1 down after Kevin De Bruyne had equalised.
Moussa Dembele slotted past Ederson but only after he looked to have fouled Aymeric Laporte.
His Lyon team-mate also stepped over the ball while being in an offside position but after a VAR review the goal stood.
The incident joins a long list of what City fans will call injustices as their European hoodoo continues.
And Ferdinand, who feels as if the goal should've been chalked off, believes all sorts of theories will ignite.
He said: "If I'm on that pitch I think it's a definite foul. It's got to be. City were dominating at that point.
"100% contact. I don't understand how they can't call that. There's going to be people saying conspiracy theories now if you're a City fan, etc.
"But I believe that's a foul there and the man goes on to score the goal."
Dembele scored a second late on, less than 60 seconds after Raheem Sterling had blazed over with the goal at his mercy.

A goal could've sent the quarter final into extra-time but the forward fluffed his lines to leave the City bench with their head in their hands.
After the game a reflective De Bruyne bemoaned the fact that similar issues were being discussed as his side exited the competition.
“Yes, it’s the same stuff,” he said. ”In the first half it wasn’t good enough. We know that. We started slow.
“In the second half we played really well. Had chances. But then the 2-1, and 3-1 ends the game. It’s a shame to go out that way."
