Rio Ferdinand cuts honeymoon with Kate Wright short for his 'first priority'

Rio Ferdinand couldn't let the small matter of his wedding get in the way of his 'first priority'.

The former Manchester United star jetted back to the UK following a stunning three-day celebration as he wed Kate Wright in Turkey last Friday.

The newlyweds said 'I do' in an emotional cliff top ceremony at the D Maris Bay hotel in Marmaris where Rio's two sons, Lorenz, 13, and 11-year-old Tate walked Kate down the aisle and eight-year-old daughter Tia acted as Maid of Honour.

But the party had to come to an end as Rio was back on punditry duty on Tuesday night for Tottenham Hotspur's brutal game against Bayern Munich.

Host and pal Gary Lineker couldn't help but ask the 40-year-old former footballer about his big day.

He teased: "Rio, shouldn't you be on your honeymoon?"

Clearly focused on the job he was there to do, the retired Red responded: "No, no, no, we will leave that to another time.

"We have important things to do here in the studio."

Gary then pushed: "Football is always the priority, is that right?"

Rio laughed: "Yes! And she knows that!" referring to his new wife.

Rio and former reality star Kate married over the weekend with guests sworn to secrecy over the big do.

The happy couple announced their engagement last November after going public with their relationship in 2017.

Fans were delighted to see Rio find happiness after the tragedy of losing his wife Rebecca Ellison to cancer in May 2015.

Speaking exclusively in this week's OK Magazine , Rio said : "I genuinely feel like Kate was sent to us after what we have all been through, she came into our lives at the most perfect time."
