Rio Ferdinand changes his mind over Liverpool and Chelsea in Premier League title race

Rio Ferdinand has altered his Premier League title prediction involving Liverpool.

The Reds are one of three clubs who are thought to be seriously in the race for the league title this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are in third place and 12 points behind leaders Manchester City, but do have two games in hand.

Chelsea are one point ahead of Liverpool in second but have played one game more, as the Reds prepare to face Thomas Tuchel’s Blues at Stamford Bridge.

Many pundits, including Ferdinand, predicted Chelsea to launch a strong title challenge this season.

However, a run of three draws in four league matches for Chelsea has led to Ferdinand now believing that Liverpool are the biggest challengers to Man City in the title race.

"I think Liverpool would be my tip to rival Man City but I know it can only be two games with Salah and Mane going to the AFCON,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport, before Man City’s win over Arsenal on Saturday.

“But if they don’t win those two games then I think City have won it.

"You see the stats, 10 wins on the bounce 30+ goals, six conceded that form is something I don’t think anybody else is capable of achieving.

“I tipped Chelsea at the start of the season but if you look at the results and performances in recent weeks and form and momentum, City are alone."
