Rio Ferdinand cannot believe damning Manchester United stat after derby defeat to Man CIty

Rio Ferdinand was left questioning Manchester United after another damning loss for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

An own goal from United defender Eric Bailly and Bernardo Silva settled the scores in favour of Manchester City in their mouth-watering Premier League derby showdown at Old Trafford this afternoon.

It's a result that leaves United some way adrift in the race for top four and their title hopes all but over.

With that heavy and humiliating 5-0 reverse against bitter rivals Liverpool fresh in the mind, there will be more pressure on under-fire Solskjaer and his position at the helm in the coming days.

As far as ex-United player Ferdinand is concerned, though, it was an alarming message they sent out during the 90 minutes this lunchtime that begs the biggest question.

Addressing his 11.1million Twitter followers, the footballer-turned-pundit and podcast host said: "Utd have had more shots against [David] de Gea than against Ederson... This can't be real!"

Less than two weeks on from a five-star humiliation against one of the main contenders for the title this season - not to mention their biggest rivals - it was another humbling day for United.

Having considered Solskjaer's future in the aftermath of that game, key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom opted to stand by their man, instead, and some parity was restored in United's following two matches.

They coasted to a 3-0 victory over Tottenham and picked up a credible point vs Atalanta.

However, back up against top-level opposition this afternoon, United came up short, yet again, to leave themselves six points behind City and nine behind table-topping Chelsea after 11 games.
