Rio Ferdinand backs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United team vs Leicester City

Rio Ferdinand has backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team selection for the Premier League clash against Leicester City, with 10 changes to the side.

Premier League debuts have been handed out to Amad and Anthony Elanga, with Mason Greenwood the only player remaining from the side that defeated Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Having shuffled his deck significantly, rival fans may be frustrated with the team selected - with the likes of Liverpool and West Ham hoping that United defeat Leicester to give them a boost in their top-four hopes.

However, Ferdinand has shot down any frustrations on that aspect and put the changes down to the packed fixture schedule over the next week.

“You can’t blame him, he’s been forced into this. Ideally the fixture list wouldn’t be so congested, it’s the situation they’re in - you’ve got to deal with it," he told BT Sport.

"No other manager can be upset about it, they might be disappointed, but you can’t be upset because if anyone was in his position, they’d do exactly the same.”

United's spot in the top-four was secured following Sunday's win against Villa, accompanied by West Ham's defeat to Everton, meaning that Champions League football is on the cards again next term.

Solskjaer's side face another quick turnaround, with the clash against Liverpool on Thursday, before drawing the Premier League campaign to a close against Fulham and Wolves.

United then travel to Gdansk for the Europa League final against Villarreal, with victory in Poland securing a first-seed spot in the Champions League draw next season.
