Rio Ferdinand and Mauricio Pochettino agree on Arsenal transfer target ahead of January window

Arsenal will be preparing for the January transfer window, which is now just under three weeks away.

The Gunners could be more active in the market than usual, considering the likes of Thomas Partey, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Mohamed Elneny will all be jetting off for the Africa Cup of Nations in the coming weeks.

Mikel Arteta's side will be short in midfield and have therefore been linked to a number of players across Europe, including Lille playmaker Renato Sanches.

Now, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Paris Saint-Germain are open to listening to loan offers for Georginio Wijnaldum, with the north London club said to be an option for the Dutch international.

If PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino's comments are anything to go by, Wijnaldum would be an excellent signing for any interested party.

Speaking back in July, Pochettino said: “He is a player who can bring in both areas of play: offensively and defensively, with that aggressiveness that the whole team needs.

"His experience and his qualities make him a player who behaves in the same way in both phases of the game.

“He is an aggressive player, who throws himself into the opponent’s area when it is necessary to score goals and in the defensive phase, who presses, recovers, and has an impact on duels.

"He is a complete player and I am delighted to have him with us.”

Similarly, Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has previously hailed the former Liverpool maestro, claiming he has been underrated in recent years.

“He’s very selfless, his intelligence, he’s underrated completely because he can play every single midfield position in that central area", Ferdinand told BT Sport last year.

“He plays a No.10 role for Holland, the way he defends here [for Liverpool].”
