Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has aimed a surprise dig at his former side’s board over their summer transfer strategy.
The Red Devils have only brought one player in over the window, with Donny van de Beek arriving from Ajax for £40m in August.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been linked with moves for players such as Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham, Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon throughout the summer.
But they appear to have failed in all of those pursuits as the English forward is set to stay at Borussia Dortmund, joined by Bellingham there, while the Real Madrid stars appear to be heading to Tottenham.
And Ferdinand, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2002 for a then-record of £30m, appears to have had enough of Ed Woodward and the board in their transfer strategy, comparing them to rivals Chelsea ’s £200m spree.
Speaking on Five YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “Frank has made signing players like it’s the norm, like it’s easy – water off a duck’s back.
“The difference in the way Chelsea have done their business compared to say my team Man United.
“There is no noise there’s nothing going on, all you’re seeing is bang – deal. Little bit of talk, bang - deal.
“That is what’s frustrating for me and all the Man United fans.”
The former United player picked out the debacle over Sancho, which saw the German side’s sporting director say he would “play this season at Dortmund” despite Solskjaer’s side “agreeing personal terms and agent fees” with the forward.
“Sancho was talked about months ago,” Ferdinand added.
“Still not done, it’s so frustrating.
“I’m not saying deals are easy to be done but Chelsea are showing deals can be done if you put the money down and it’s all done in the right way.”
It comes as Solskjaer was convinced to snub a loan deal for Bale from Madrid.
