Rio Ferdinand admits he's concerned by two Manchester United transfer deals

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has admitted he is concerned by the decisions to offload Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan.

The Red Devils sold Lukaku to the Italian side earlier in the transfer window, with Sanchez then joining the Belgian forward in Milan this week after completing a loan deal.

On top of that, Chris Smalling has departed for Roma and United look set to offload Matteo Darmian back to his homeland before this week's European transfer deadline.

However, while Ferdinand believes United are well stocked in defence, he added that he feels the recent departures at the other end of the field has left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer short of options.

“That would be my one concern, they’re a bit light especially in the forward areas,” he told BT Sport.

“I think they’ve got a lot of cover in defensive areas but in the forward areas they’ve let Lukaku and Sanchez go.

“There’s a positive spin to that, you can say he’s now invested and confident in the young kids, given that responsibility, but they’re going to have to show they’re worthy.

“Yes they are talented players and they have the opportunity to show these fans, the staff, that they are ready. What an opportunity for them.”
