Rio 2016: YouTuber completes Rubix Cube faster than Bolt ran the 100m

An American YouTuber was able to solve a Rubix Cube faster than Usain Bolt completed the 100m final in Rio, after he began the puzzle as the starting pistol for the race went off.

Anthony Brooks, a champion ‘speed cuber’ from Texas, crouched at the start of the video clip as if he was on the starting blocks and picked up his 3x3 cube as the sprinters raced away.

With the vocal support of a family member, Mr Brooks completed the cube in less than 9.5 seconds, beating gold medal winner Bolt - who posted a time of 9.81 seconds - to the finish line.

The puzzle champion then celebrated along with the Jamaican sprinter, both winners in their individual fields.

Mr Brooks has previously been ranked in the top five Rubix Cube solvers in the world, involving both 2x2 and 3x3 cubes, and once set the Guinness World Record for the most cubes solved underwater in a single breath.

It may be a while before any 100m sprinter catches up with the teenager who currently holds the speed world record however. 14-year-old Lucas Etter from Kentucky solved one of the cubes in 4.9 seconds in December last year.
