Rinsola Babajide scores wondergoal as Liverpool Women boost WSL promotion bid

Liverpool Women have made a solid start to life in the second tier of the FA Women's Super League following their unfortunate relegation last season.

The Reds lie third in the table after the opening six games and have already enjoyed an impressive win over Manchester United in the FA WSL cup.

They were in WSL action on Sunday against league leaders Sheffield United at Prenton Park knowing a win would put them level on points with the table-topping female Blades.

And they were given a great chance of victory after being given the lead by a sensational goal which would not have looked out of place at any level of the game ( watch it below ).

Former England U20 international Rinsola Babajide rose to media recognition in 2016 after scoring 14 goals for the University of East London women’s football team in an amateur game which ended 40-0.

She will make even more headlines if she carries on scoring goals like the one which give Liverpool the lead after just five minutes at Prenton Park.

Picking up the ball from a Liverpool throw midway inside the Sheffield half on the left flank, Babajide span on a sixpence and dribbled past five hapless Blades defenders before lashing home a left-foot drive into the bottom corner of the net.

Babajide's wonderstrike deserved to be the matchwinner and was as Vicky Jepson's team withstood pressure from the visitors in the second half to secure the win that takes them joint top of the league.
