Ringo Starr and Ronnie Wood join Paul McCartney for performance of Beatles classic at London show

Rex Features

Paul McCartney stunned fans in London last night after bringing Ringo Starr on stage for a rendition of a Beatles classic.

The drummer had earlier been spotted in the crowd of McCartney’s show at the O2 Arena, sparking rumours of a possible reunion later on in the show.

McCartney later invited Starr onto the stage alongside Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood for an encore performance of “Get Back”.

“I don’t know about you, but it was incredible for me,” Starr said after the performance, before leaving the stage with Wood.

Also in attendance at the show, which saw the former Beatle tear through over 30 songs, were Emma Thompson, Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and Harry Styles who watched on as McCartney reeled off anecdotes about John Lennon and George Harrison.

Next year, Starr will celebrate the 30th anniversary of his All Starr Band with a string of dates in cities ranging from Los Angeles and Tokyo. He’ll be joined by Toto’s Steve Lukather, Men at Work’s Colin Hay and Santana’s Gregg Rolie among others.

The tour will precede a brand new photo book titled Another Day in the Life, which features “previously unpublished photographs, captioned with Ringo’s observations and anecdotes”.

McCartney’s London show was the final date of his current tour following the release of Egypt Station. He’s heavily rumoured to be the next act announced as a Glastonbury 2019 headliner.
