Riley's Fish Shack aims to reopen in Tynemouth this summer

Riley's Fish Shack has revealed when it plans to reopen to customers in Tynemouth.

The seafood shack in King Edward's Bay - heralded as one of the best places to eat in Britain by Observer food critic Jay Rayner - has been closed to customers since March due to the coronavirus lockdown.

It means the lengthy queues which are a common sight on King Edward's Bay have disappeared this spring. But, as a restaurant overlooking a beach, Riley's could find adapting to the 'new normal' more straight forward than many other establishments, as customers can spread out and eat while sat in deck chairs on the sand.

Writing on Facebook, Riley's Fish Shack revealed it is aiming for to reopen in early July.

Riley's post said: "We hope to re-open the shack at some point early July and are considering the best approach, we imagine it'll be a spaced out queue with a simplified menu by day and we're considering taking bookings for the deckchairs by evening for what would likely be a set menu."

Riley's Fish Shack also revealed its team has been preparing to open a new shop in Tynemouth in September, adding "more info to follow on this but we're excited to say it will be a mix of retail, dining and education".
